OTC 2017 - Training Courses

In 2017, OTC will hold training courses, hosted by our sponsoring societies. The courses are one day in length and will be held at NRG Center, the same location as the technical sessions. The courses will be on the Saturday prior to OTC 2017, which runs 1–4 May.

FRACPACKING FOR SAND CONTROL

This OTC Training Course will demonstrate why fracpack technology has become popular as a sand control method. It will also cover some selected topics regarding the technology regarding the execution issues (e.g. TSO, NS-plots, & Calibration testing) and evaluation of the installed completion. More info.

GLOBAL DEEPWATER SILICICLASTIC RESERVOIRS

This OTC Training Course is designed to provide participants with a modern appreciation of the full spectrum of deep-water reservoirs, their mechanisms of transport and deposition, their stratigraphic architecture, their predictive characteristics, and their 3D heterogeneity. More info.

 

OVERVIEW OF SUBSEA WELL ABANDONMENT

This OTC Training Course will provide a high-level overview of how to perform subsea well abandonments. It will take the learner through the regulations and guidelines and different subsea well tree configurations. Attendees will review vessels and riser systems available to safely conduct subsea well abandonment operations. The course will also include discussion of lower and upper wellbore abandonment best practices, different deployment methods and downhole tool selections. More info.

 

SEISMIC INTERPRETATION IN DEEP WATER BASINS

This OTC Training Course is based on the systematic, comparative interpretation of modern, long offset, regional seismic profiles with time and depth migration and several suites of selected 3D data in the deep-water realm from around the world. More info.

Outside of the five OTC Training Courses listed above, the Independent Petroleum Association of America is offering an Oil & Gas Overview Course on Friday, April 28.

The course is recommended for oil and gas company employees, suppliers, contractors, attorneys, accountants, landmen, bankers, investors, traders, insurers, regulators, etc. and qualifies for CPD, CPE, RL, RPL, and CPL credits. It has an upstream focus with some midstream information and will thoroughly cover industry structure, petroleum geology and exploration, mineral rights and leasing, drilling and completion, and development and production operations. RESERVE ACCOMMODATIONS AT AN OFFICIAL OTC HOTEL

Hotel Cancellation Policy
Room reservations can be cancelled with no penalty until 1800 hours (ET) on 31 March 2017. After this time, hotels will charge a non-refundable 1 night room and tax deposit on all current reservations. If you reserve your hotel after 1 April, the non-refundable 1 night room and tax deposit will be charged as soon as the reservation is received by the hotel.

Failure to check in on your scheduled day of arrival (no-show), will result in forfeiture of your deposit Experient Sealand your room will be released by the hotel.

Note: Experient is the official housing and travel coordinator for OTC. No other hotel/housing provider is authorized to contact you on behalf of OTC. We will vigorously pursue these other companies to prevent unauthorized contact.

NRG PARK PARKING

***Parking is cash only***

If you decide to park at NRG Park, please allow plenty of time for the extra traffic around the area during OTC. Nearby parking fills up quickly. After midmorning, consider exiting on South Main and park in the yellow or green lot. A complimentary tram service is available to take you to the OTC entrance.

The parking fee is USD 12 per entry. Vehicles with permits may leave and return between 0600–1900 hours, Monday–Thursday, but not overnight.

Exhibitors may purchase parking passes at USD 60 each. Passes allows in/out privileges during move-in, show and move-out days.  Exhibitor parking must be purchased through the NRG Park website.  

In addition, NRG Park currently allows Uber to pick up and drop off in the Teal Lot near the Methodist Training Center bubble.

NRG Park has ample handicap parking spaces located in the following lots: Red Lot 4; Orange Lot 10; and Blue Lot 16.

NRG Park is located within the inner loop of the southern portion of Interstate Loop 610 between Kirby Drive and Fannin Street.

Take Hwy. 59 (south) to Hwy. 288 (south)
Take Hwy. 288 (south) and exit Old Spanish Trail or Holly Hall; turn right
Turn left on Fannin or Kirby (if taking Old Spanish Trail)

From the South or Hobby (HOU) Airport

OTC attendees receive a discounted fare with SuperShuttle. SuperShuttle ticket counters are located in the baggage claim area of Bush Intercontinental (IAH) and Houston Hobby (HOU) airports. Tickets may also be purchased on-site at the Airport Shuttle Desk in Lobby D of NRG Center.

VISA INFORMATION FOR INTERNATIONAL ATTENDEES

Review our visa information when planning your travel to OTC. You can automatically generate an invitation letter to assist with your visa application. 

Learn how changes in US entry requirements might impact you:

  • Even for nationals of a Visa Waiver Program (VWP) country, you may still need to apply for a visa if you have visited Iran, Sudan, Syria, Libya, Somalia or Yemen on or after 1 March 2011.
  • A valid ESTA approval is required for all VWP travelers who are entering the US by air or sea.
  • Check if your departure airport is one of 10 international airports where electronic devices larger than a smartphone will not be allowed as a carry-on item into the US.
